This is inspiring, Agata! I’ve never been a journal type and now regret not encouraging my kids when they were younger to start one. But, I do manage to write notes on my smartphone. You’ve inspired me to try bringing one and jotting things in a notebook during our next trip. Thanks!

I’ve been keeping journals since I was in high school. It’s a treat to go back and read about the person I was then. I also keep mementos (ticket stubs, lunch receipts, etc.) of my trips in the pockets of my journals and those are fun to look back at. You’re right though, it’s easy to remember one trip but when you’re covering lots of miles and seeing different things on different days, it’s hard to keep track. You can forget with photos alone, writing crystallize the memories. Great piece, Agata!

I bring a notebook with me wherever I go, too! When I travel, I always write in it, especially at the end of the day to recall all of the days events. It is fun to look back and read about those times. I have a collection of notebooks, too, and it keeps growing! :)

I never travel without a notebook. I’m totally old school like that. :) You list great reasons to have one on hand – I hadn’t thought of escaping, but I see your point!

I loved this article because it’s a philosophy I have lived with for years!! I love coming back after the day and writing about the experiences, the feelings, the people, the food; just about everything that happened from sunup to sundown! Thanks for bringing this to the forefront of traveling!!

I so agree! I have to write down everything – when I look back at my notes I’m always amazed at how much I have forgotten.

Agata – you have done a great job of clarifying the importance of writing.I take a zillion photos and tend to write only on camping trips when I have the time. This is a timely reminder!
