Hanging around like a drifter in Stockholm

Hanging around like a drifter in Stockholm
I visit Stockholm every year. Usually, at the beginning of September or in late August. It’s not that this is my favorite holiday destination but this city is friendly enough to make a short stop. When I go to Stockholm the weather is usually surprisingly nice: sunny and warm. Only once I was almost washed off by the heavy rain. So if you think about visiting this city check the weather forecast and be prepare for every ... Read more

One of the best museums I have ever been to

One of the best museums I have ever been to
It is justified to visit Washington DC for its museums. One of them- National Postal Museum- became one of my favorite. This museum was recommended by one of my American friends and, as always, this is an excellent way to know fascinating places. I don’t think I would go there if it hadn’t been recommended. Whenever it’s possible ask the locals. The museum is rather small which is a great advantage.  In couple of ... Read more

How to eat an exquisite bistecca alla fiorentina even if you are a tourist?

How to eat an exquisite bistecca alla fiorentina even if you are a tourist?
Let’s face it: there is no way to eat the real bistecca alla fiorentina outside Tuscany. That is the reason why this post is not accompanied by ingredients’ list. Mostly because it would contain: best quality meet and…literally nothing else. I’m not trying to say that going to Florence or Arezzo and eating bistecca is trivial. Absolutely not! Even if you come to Florence the chances to eat exquisite bistecca ... Read more

5 Best Places To Live

5 Best Places To Live
Best Places To Live, Best Retirement Heavens, The Healthiest Places to Live, The Best Climates In The World…you name it! It’s quite widespread to publish a ranking of the best places to live. Magazines and research institutions make an ongoing effort to decide what makes a perfect place perfect. While their lists are somehow interesting I am sure that each person has his/her own preferences that has nothing to do with ... Read more

4 Reasons Why I Hate Brussels

4 Reasons Why I Hate Brussels
There are not many places that I really can’t stand and Brussels is one of them. This is a deep and painful aversion that started from the very first visit in this city. I think I’m not the only one as I know many people who share this deep dislike. I am also aware that there is a considerable group of enthusiasts of this city but this fact might be related to the taste of beer, which I don’t share. My short ... Read more

Washington DC and Cherry Blossom Festival

Washington DC and Cherry Blossom Festival
When I went to Washington for the first time I didn’t know what to expect. For many reasons the city was puzzling. Being a home for the government, embassies and all this official business it was so diverse than New York city and other American metropolis. Washington is really special: without skyscrapers and overwhelming noise it tries to convince you that the most important things in this country take place ... Read more

Cacao et Chocolat Île St-Louis – the best chocolate ever

Cacao et Chocolat Île St-Louis – the best chocolate ever
Paris is one of the most popular touristic destinations in the world. While you find thousands of “good advises” and “must-see” spots I would like to encourage you to a lazy walk around one of the city islands: Île St-Louis. Frankly, even if Paris is not my favorite city I think I would agree with Audrey Hepburn who said: “Paris is always a good idea” I went to Paris many times and I saw it in ... Read more

IJburg – living on the artificial island

IJburg – living on the artificial island
It is rather common to think about the Netherlands as a country determined by highly skilled management of water. A substantial part of this country lies below the sea level. For most of the tourists Holland means: good cheese, tulips and bicycles. I would like to convince you that Holland is not just flowers and water. It is also a country of modern architecture and advance engineer solutions. To see a real housing innovation you ... Read more

While it might be trivial as all travel guides say it I would still encourage you start your visit in Milan from the central square. This is a busy square packed with people in organized groups, Japanese mostly. For me the best time to visit this place was during the night: it looks marvelous.  It is beautifully illuminated! But if I was in Milan only for a short visit and had no chance to wait until the dark I would recommend a ... Read more

Old school trams in Milan

Old school trams in Milan
The nice thing to do in Milan is to go somewhere by tram. The city center is covered with the electric net which feeds old and modern trams. Take a ride. Just for a change. To make it really nice and kind of ‘old school’ or ‘vintage’ impression take the old wooden tram which makes a terrible noise. These trams have funny additional step that magically appears when the door is open. Be careful and hold on: these trams may sometimes ... Read more
